Promoting International Trade and Economic Development | | - Met with newly-inaugurated Mexican President Vicente Fox during Fox’s
first visit to the U.S., hosting a meeting to discuss the economic issues facing California and Mexico and to formulate viable financial and environmental proposals. - Represented California at a Munich, Germany signing ceremony to extend a
two-year research and technology agreement between California and the Free State of Bavaria. The extension of the California/Bavaria Research and Technology Development Partnership will help California companies enter the German marketplace in key industries. - Member of a successful California trade mission to Mexico in February
1999. This mission helped to restore friendly relations between California and Mexico and was reciprocated by a later visit to California by then-President Ernesto Zedillo. - Hosted an international trade and economic development conference with the Governor
of Jalisco, Mexico in 1999, which was held in conjunction with the inaugural Cruz M. Bustamante Cup exhibition soccer game. Tying sports and international relations together is an innovative approach to promoting trade, economic development and cultural exchanges. - Opened a $100,000 bank account at Founders National Bank in South Los
Angeles. Bustamante continues to encourage others to also invest in community banks, which in turn provide loans to their customers and services to those who want to start new businesses, buy cars, go to college or buy new homes.
